Zeta Segalle

February 14, 1919 — March 19, 2016

Zeta (Haggerson) Segalle passed away on March 19, 2016 at the age of 97 at the home of her daughter Michelle husband Mike where she lived for the past 15 months. She was the last of the Haggerson girls from Hurley, WI. The Dresely Haggerson family lived at 204 Copper Street in Hurley for many years.

Zeta was born on February 14, 1919 the youngest of 5 children born to Frank Gertrude Haggerson in Hurley, WI. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Hurley in 1936 and then attended St Josephs Hospital School of Nursing in Ashland and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1940. She then moved to Sheboygan to work at St. Nicholas Hospital on the mens surgery and medical floor where she met her future husband Stanley who was a patient.

Zeta and Staff Sgt. Stanley Segalle were married on August 26, 1943 at St Marys Catholic Church in Hurley, WI. On Stans return from service in the Army Air Corps in January, 1946, she retired from nursing for 11 years. During that time she had 5 children and helped her husband run the Oui Oui Bar on 12th Street and Michigan Avenue. In 1957 she returned to work at St Nicholas Hospital in the Pediatrics Department where she remained for 24 years until her retirement in 1981. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary 9156 in Sheboygan and was the last surviving member of the Charter members of VFW Post 9156 Auxiliary.

She loved to play cards and go to bingo as well as reading working crossword suduko puzzles. She also enjoyed knitting crocheting and made an afghan for each granddaughter for their high school graduation and a baby afghan for each great-grandchild at birth until her eyes hands wouldnt let her do such projects.

Most of all, she enjoyed her large extended family and loved attending birthdays, 1st communions, confirmations, sporting events and graduations, first for the grandchildren and then the great-grandchildren; the most recent being at Vollrath Bowl in June, 2014 for great grandson Nathan Pfeifers graduation. She thoroughly enjoyed it when her daughter, Maryann and/or her great-grandsons, Nathan and Alex Pfeifer came to her house to play cards with her. They taught her some games as well as she teaching them some. Her son-in-law, Mike, spent many hours playing cards with her while she lived with them as well. Since he was little, great grandson Alex Pfeifer has been his great-grandmas special friend and spent many hours with her.

She also enjoyed watching her Green Bay Packers and kept track of the scores while checking her numbers in the various pools she was in for every game. She even passed up going to bingo if the Packers were on TV.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband on August 31, 1985, her 3 sisters, Francis Risku, Dorothy Bruneau, and Helen Radomski, her brother, William Haggerson, 2 sons-in-law, Kenneth Klein Gene Petersohn, 1 daughter-in-law, Marge Segalle and 1 grandson, Troy Reineking.

She is survived by her 5 children, Michelle (Michael) Gonzalez, Stanley Segalle, Jr., Zeta Wernecke, Joseph Segalle, and Maryann Petersohn. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren. Dean (Wendy) Klein, Janis (Jeff) Pfeifer, Julie (Al) Risse, Mark (Rhonda) Baumann, Ryan (Jessica) Baumann, Tracy Entringer, Jason Segalle, Michelle Bennett, Amy Segalle, John Segalle, Brian (Jenn) Reineking and Tammy (Todd) Fellner. There are also 34 great-grandchildren with the 35th due in October, two nephews and several nieces and cousins. She will be greatly missed by good friend neighbor, LaVerne Elias and son, Mark.

Zeta will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was blessed with a long and mostly healthy life and we are thankful for the years we had with her. We now take comfort in knowing she rests in heaven with the Lord and with her husband, Stanley whom she missed a lot over the past 30+ years.

The family would like to thank Sharon Richardson Community Hospice, especially Anne Lindsay for their care compassion during her recent illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Ss. Cyril Methodius Catholic Church, 822 New Jersey Ave. on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Paul Fliss, Pastor, will be the celebrant. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass. Burial will follow at Greendale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in her name to the Greendale Cemetery Upkeep Maintenance Fund or Sharon Richardson Community Hospice would be appreciated.

The nicest place to be is in someones thoughts, the safest place to be is in someones prayers, and the very best place to be is in the hands of God.
