Shirley A. Margenau

Shirley Ann Margenau, age 92, of Sheboygan, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2023 while receiving comfort and care from the staff at Sheboygan Senior Community Nursing Home and Sharon Richardson Hospice Care, surrounded by her loving family at her passing.

Shirley was born April 14, 1930 to Hugo and Josephine (Jeray) Kohls.  She married Richard Arthur Margenau on May 10, 1958.  Shirley was a loving and devoted wife and mother who proudly raised three children with Richard: Jana Jo, Lesa Lynn and Randall Richard. As their children grew, Shirley worked at multiple entities including the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department.  Together with Richard, Shirley enjoyed family vacations throughout Northern Wisconsin and numerous trips to Crystal Falls, Michigan.  As their children grew and left home, Richard and Shirley continued to enjoy vacations across Wisconsin, Arizona, Nevada, Florida, Colorado and Canada. Shirley lost the love of her life on May 24, 2010.  Shirley loved to cook and bake for her family, especially traditional Yugoslavian dishes.  Her Potica recipe was a holiday tradition she lovingly shared with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her three children; Jana Jo (Jeff Spence) of Milwaukee, Lesa Barnard of Sheboygan, and Randall Margenau (Becky) of Cottage Grove; five grandchildren, Joshua Spence (Tracy Smith), Jacob Spence (Caitlin Mullane), Ryan Barnard (Chrissie), and Madalyn Muszynski (Tyler) and Alexa Margenau; and one Great Grandchild Charlie Jude Muszynski.  She is also survived by her brothers Eugene Kohls and Gerald Kohls (Nancy), and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by an infant sister, June and two brothers Donald and Robert Kohls.

The family is grateful for the dignified and compassionate care provided by the staff of both the Oak unit of the Sheboygan Senior Community Nursing Home and Sharon Richardson Palliative Care and Hospice Services, especially Dustin Erdman for the compassionate care and advocacy he provided to Shirley in honoring her wishes to be surrounded by her loving family.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at NOON on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Zimmer Funeral Home, W2132 Garton Rd in Sheboygan with Father Paul Fliss officiating.  Family will greet visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.  Entombment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to Sheboygan Senior Community and Sharon Richardson Hospice.
