Romaine G. "Romy" Spira passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 28, 2017 surrounded by his family at the age of 91.
Romy was born in Sheboygan on September 27, 1926 to George and Emma (nee Sprenger) Spira. After graduating from Sheboygan Central High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served on a ship that was sent out to sea in the Philippines. When he returned, he graduated from the pharmacy program at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He went on to work at Smidler Drug Store for most of his professional career.
On June 14, 1949, he was united in marriage with Shirley M. Fischer, his wife of 56 years.
Romaine was a member of Riverview Club, and was very active in fishing, hunting, bowling, throwing darts at the River Rats Club, stamp collecting, gardening and enjoyed spending time with his family. We know he is with God now, but will be missed forever for his winning smile and gentle heart.
He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, daughter Corrine (Keith) Larson, son Richard Spira, an infant daughter, and his brother Glen Spira.
Romy is survived by his daughters Barbara (Bruce) Pierotti and Teresa (Ronald) Anderson and his son Randal Spira. He is further survived by six grandchildren: Marcia (Mike) Fischer, Dennis Fischer, Shannon Larson, Peter (Lena) Pierotti, Jeff Pierotti (Ashley) and Kurt (Nikki) Pierotti; five great-granchildren: Anya, Madison, Gavin, Nathan and Elizabeth, brother-in-law Kenneth (Camille) Fischer, other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Zimmer Westview Funeral and Cremation Care Center, W2132 Garton Rd. in Sheboygan. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Romy will be laid to rest at Lutheran Cemetery in Sheboygan beside Shirley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Romy's name to the Alzheimer's Association.
