Robert C. "Bob" Bartzen, 90, of Sheboygan, died on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. He was born November 24, 1927 in Sheboygan to Clemens and Jeanette (Walvoord) Bartzen. Bob graduated from North High School with the class of 1946. He then went on to attend M.S.O.E, before proudly joining the US Army. Bob was stationed in Japan post WWII.
On May 1, 1954 he was united in marriage to Mary G. Skrube at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Sheboygan. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Bob worked for Shriver Natural Gas Conversion. He then went on to work for Levitan Fruit Company and Bartzen Liquor.
Bob was a lifetime member of the Elks Club. He enjoyed volunteering and donated a lot of his time to Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church at BINGO, working in the kitchen, with the maintenance department, and at Greendale Cemetery. He also helped his neighbors whenever they needed anything. Bob was known for his enormous vegetable garden, making his "famous" popcorn, and white chocolate covered pretzels, which he would give to family and friends throughout the year, but especially around the holidays. His made-from-scratch apple and cherry pies and poppy seed torte were a must at family gatherings. In his younger years, Bob was very athletic, lettering in tennis, basketball, and track. In his senior year he won the state championship in men's singles tennis.
Bob is survived by his wife Mitz of 64 years; by his children Mary Jo (Michael) Sutton, Robert P. (Jody) Bartzen, Carol (Tim) Stielow, and TJ (Sandy) Bartzen; by his nine grandchildren Aaron (Dana) Kolste, Alison (Jason) Koenig, Amy (Josh) Arthur, Kelly (Steve) Ogden, Jeff Bartzen, John (Fiancée Leah Schneider) Bartzen, Jennifer and Jaclyn Stielow, and Michelle Bartzen; by his twelve great-grandchildren and his sister-in-law Daniella (Ralph) Dottai. He is further survived by his nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Clemens and Jim Bartzen.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 6:00 PM at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, 822 New Jersey Ave., Sheboygan, with Rev. Robert J. Lotz officiating. Inurnment will take place at Greendale Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Friday, May 25, 2018 from 3:30 PM until the time of mass at the CHURCH.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, Pine Haven Christian Home, or Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Pine Haven Christian Home, Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, and Dr. James Pawlak for all the excellent care they gave Bob.
