Richard “Rick” Joseph Servais, age 72, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2024. He was born on December 19, 1951 in Green Bay to the late Lawrence and Alice (Quinlan) Servais. On August 10, 1974, he married the love of his life, Kathryn Karl at St. Hedwig in West Kewaunee. Together they raise three children: Chris, Dave and Tricia.
Rick served as Regional Manager at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for 37 years. This required many moves over the years. Kathy and the kids traveled right along with Rick, becoming very close as a family and experiencing new places and adventures together. When he retired, Rick continued to give back to his community. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Forth Degree in Sheboygan, serving as secretary. He was also part of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1789 in Plymouth/Elkhart Lake, serving as treasurer and financial secretary. He was also involved with the Elkhart Lake Lions Club, serving as their treasurer. Additionally, he was the president of the Elkhart Lake Men’s Club. He loved football, especially his Green Bay Packers. Rick enjoyed playing fantasy football as well, participating in the leagues since 1991. He was a talented guitar player, playing guitar for St. Dominic’s church in Sheboygan. He hosted foreign exchange students, and loved to travel, camp, take canoe trips, golf, enjoyed fishing, especially in the Boundry Waters, and having breakfast with the boys. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father and papa who deeply loved God and his family, and truly cared about his community. The world could use more people like Rick.
Richard is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathy, his children: Chris (Allison) Servais and his step-children Hailee and Grant, Dave (Meghan) Servais and their children Ester and Morrison, and Tricia (Kevin) Johnson and their children Cara, Ellie and Kate. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his and Kathy’s parents, Richard is preceded in death by his siblings Bill, Tina and Jim, his nephews Drew and John Paul, and his niece Mary Marie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Thomas Aquinas, 94 Lincoln St. in Elkhart Lake on Monday, October 28, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., with Father Subi Thomas officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
The family will be taking Rick to his final resting place in a private ceremony at a later date.
