Kohler

Mary E. (Schetter) Meyer, age 78, of Kohler, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, August 22, 2022, at Manitowoc Health and Rehab.

Mary was born on June 20, 1944, in Sheboygan, to Raymond and Matilda (Strojinc) Schetter. She graduated from Elkhart Lake – Glenbeulah High School and was the Salutatorian for the class of 1962. After High School, Mary attended college at UW-Sheboygan and took private art lessons from Mrs. Joseph Gerber.

On August 31, 1963, Mary was united in marriage to Richard W. Meyer at St. George’s Church in Elkhart Lake. Together, they raised one son, Michael.

Mary worked as a bookkeeper for much of her life at Meyer Import Service, a business that she and her husband established in the 1970’s. She officially retired from Meyer Import Service in 2014.

Mary found joy in her life when she was able to preserve history through the restoration and colorization of old photographs. She did this professionally from 1965 to 1993 for local photographers such as Sunset Studios, and as a volunteer for 30 years at the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center in Sheboygan Falls. She received the Local History Award of Merit from the State of Wisconsin Historical Society in 1990 for her work preserving Sheboygan County’s photo archives.

Mary is survived by her son, Michael (Jaye) Meyer; grandchild, Logan Meyer; brothers, Jim (Donna) Schetter and Steve (Brenda) Schetter; sisters, Susan Platz, and Carol (Dennis) Bardon; nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard; parents, Raymond and Matilda; sister, Ann Turk; and brother-in-law, Ken Platz.

Private family services will take place at the Sheboygan Falls Cemetery where Mary will be buried next to her husband, Richard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may go to the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center in Sheboygan Falls.
