Mabel L. Horneck, 86, of Howards Grove, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025 at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan. She was born in Manitowoc on May 20, 1938 to the late Hubert and Helen (Stuebs) Kolb. Mabel graduated from Kiel High School in 1956.
On May 14, 1960, Mabel united in marriage to Carl Horneck. Mabel was a member of St. John UCC Sheboygan for many years. At church, she was involved with Mother’s Club, Women’s Guild, ushering and the food pantry. She worked as a part-time sales associate at JC Penny for 30 years. She was an avid reader, loved playing cards, and loved to plant flowers and garden vegetables. She and Carl were raised on a farm, and had a very large garden. She enjoyed her kitchen, and loved to cook wonderful meals for her family.
Mabel is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Carl Horneck; her children Steven (Pam) Horneck and Mary Horneck; her step-grandchildren Christen (Jason) Plantenberg and Jason (Angela) Foley; her step-great-grandchildren Jordan and Gavin Plantenberg, and Ryan and Jayden Foley; her sister-in-law Elaine Kolb, and brother-in-law Robert Schiellack. She is further survived by special nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Sheldon Kolb, Mildred (Robert) Mullen, Melba (Robert) Pfister; brothers-in-law Elton (Mae) Horneck and Allen (Bernice) Horneck; sisters-in-law Jean Schiellack and Lou Eva (Lloyd) Schmahl; and niece Susan Pfister
A memorial service to honor Mabel’s life will take place at St. John UCC, 1248 Lincoln Avenue, Sheboygan, on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 12:00 p.m., with Pastor Judine Duerwaechter officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Mabel will be brought to her final resting place at Greenlawn Memorial Park immediately following service.
The family would like to thank their friendly neighbors, the Howards Grove First Responders, the emergency room staff at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan, Pastor Nathan Athorp, Pastor Judine Duerwaechter, and Reverend Gregory Whelton, who were all a great comfort to the family in their time of need.
