Louis John Suprise

May 17, 1944 — July 20, 2024

Cleveland

Louis John Suprise, age 80, of Cleveland passed away unexpectedly on the morning of July 20.

Lou was born May 17, 1944, in New London, WI to Claude and Florence (Wilfuhr) Suprise. He grew up in Clintonville, WI and competed in track, cross country and basketball before graduating from Clintonville High School in 1962. Following his subsequent graduation from Madison Business College in 1965, he joined the Army Reserve and served six years after basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and Fort Knox, KY.

On September 21, 1968, he married Marilyn Blum at St. Rose Catholic Church in Clintonville. In the early years of their marriage, they lived in Neenah and Denver while Lou functioned as office manager for two Nabisco food plants in those areas. Upon returning to Wisconsin in 1971 they purchased a 20-acre hobby farm on the Pigeon River in southern Manitowoc County after Lou began working as the accountant at the Sheboygan floor tile company Vinyl Plastics. In 1977 he began his 26-year career with Curt G. Joa, Inc. in Sheboygan Falls and retired in 2003 as their CFO.

Lou enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, and maintaining his yard and garden. Over the years he also looked after numerous dogs and cats, as well as horses and steers. Perhaps his most enjoyable experiences involved camping and traveling. Camping started with a 9’ x 9’ tent and evolved into a 36’ Class A motorhome. He and Marilyn toured 47 states, including Alaska and Hawaii, and Canada and six European countries. In recent years his joy was spending time with his three grandchildren. Lou will be remembered for his quick wit, always accompanied by a wicked smile. He was generous to a fault, always thinking of others first. The world could use more people like Lou.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Cleveland; children, Joel (Jane) Suprise of Appleton and Jody (Donald) Force of Mequon; grandchildren Matthew Suprise and Melanie and Brandon Force; siblings Joyce (Mike) Rowe and Judith (David) Rank; nieces, nephews, other family and friends further survive. In addition to his parents, Lou was proceeded in death by his sister and brother-in-law Janice and Ray LaMore.

Thanks to the first responders and paramedics that came to assist and to the hospital staff. The family has sincere appreciation for their efforts.

Funeral services for Lou will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 8100 Brunner Rd., Newton, with Fr. Dave Beaudry officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place immediately following service in the church cemetery.
