Jeffrey A. Spettel, age 63, passed away Friday, August 26, 2016 after a brave two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born May 25, 1953 in Sheboygan, a son of the late Elmer and Meta (Schilling) Spettel. Jeff was a 1971 graduate of Sheboygan North High School. He proudly served his Country in the United States Marine Corps from 1971 until his honorable discharge in 1975.
Jeff married Lou Ann Haese on July 8, 1972 in 29 Palms, California. During his tenure in the Marines, Jeff was trained as an Aviation Radar Repair Technician. After his discharge, he and Lou Ann moved back to Sheboygan. Jeff started his career with M&S TV repair in Sheboygan, and in 1977, began a 37-year career at Verifine Dairy. During his career at Verifine, later Dean Foods, Jeff worked his way from laborer to supervisor all the way up to taking on the duties of plant manager. He also graduated Summa Cum Laude from Silver Lake College with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management. He retired in April of 2015. Jeff felt strongly about employee relations, and always treated his fellow workers with respect.
Having a passion for science fiction and history, Jeff loved a good movie or show. He loved to play golf, and was also a Digger, grabbing his trusty metal detector and heading out to find various treasures which he would bring home to proudly share. A dedicated husband and father, Jeff's motto was "Do it right or not at all". Recently, Jeff shared a special bond with his nephew Lucas, who is also a Marine, "Semper Fi".
Surviving Jeff are his loving wife, Lou Ann, three daughters: Stephanie (Gary) Strysick of Kingsland, GA, Christine (Jeff) Ertman and Nicole (Tony) Austreng, both of Sheboygan; four grandchildren: Aubrey, Sierra, and Deegan Ertman and Abram Austreng; nine brothers and sisters: Marilyn Pentek of Sheboygan, LeRoy Spettel of Sheboygan Falls, Laverne Boeldt, Barbara Lalley, Gary (Karen) Spettel, and Bonnie (Nicholas) Schmitz, all of Sheboygan, Becky (Barret) Paasch of Cleveland; ten brothers and sisters-in-law: John (Carol) Haese of Sheboygan, Jerry (Jean) Haese of Sheboygan, Laurie (Robert) Roethel of Sheboygan Falls, Judy (Larry) Henschel of Elkhart Lake, Randy (Dawn) Haese of Sheboygan and Ron Haese, of Sheboygan. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Jeff was also preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law; Harvey and Marie Haese, two sisters: Betty Mae Jeske and Audrey Ross, three brothers-in-law: Howard Boeldt, Eugene Jeske and Wesley Ross.
A time of gathering and support will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Zimmer's Westview Funeral & Cremation Care Center, W2132 Garton Road, Sheboygan from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A service of remembrance will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. with Deacon Michael Burch. Full Military Honors and entombment will be in the Columbaria at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jeff's name. The family intends on gifting needy Veterans in Jeff's honor.
Lou Ann and her family wish to thank Dr. Santosh Kumar, Debbie Gray RN, the very special staff of Orange Cross Ambulance, and the caring staff at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for the love and kindness shown to Jeff and his family during these difficult times. The family would also like to deeply thank Dr. Wendy Varish for her friendship, compassion, and support of Jeff and his family.
