Emma Valukas, 97, resident of Field of Dreams, Kiel, formerly a resident of Howards Grove, died Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton.
She was born October 7, 1921 in Sheboygan to Ferdinand and Elizabeth (Brack) Wiegand. She attended Trinity Lutheran Grade School and was a graduate of Sheboygan Central High School, Class of 1939. For a few years before marriage Emma was employed at Hand Knit Hosiery (now Wigwam Mills).
On October 27, 1945 Emma and Peter Valukas were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. Peter and Emma lived in the Howards Grove area for almost 60 years where they farmed. After retirement they continued to maintain a vegetable garden, giving away bumper crops to family, friends, and neighbors. They enjoyed stopping in by friends and family on "Sunday Drives". After nearly 65 years of marriage Peter preceded Emma in death on June 18, 2010.
Emma was a wonderful homemaker who especially loved being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Throughout the years her hobbies included dancing, traveling, walking, and reading.
Emma had the gift of making new residents at Field of Dreams feel welcome. She was a social butterfly. Everyone she met, she made an impression of her gentle nature. She loved sharing stories of Sheboygan's history with her family and friends. To know her was to love her.
Emma is survived by her children Linda K. (Del) Haas, Town Wilson, Richard P. (Corrinne) Valukas, Town Plymouth, Jim L. (Christy) Valukas, Kiel, Glenn D. (Mary) Valukas, Town Meeme and Lori J. (Paul) Binversie, Kiel; her grandchildren; her great-grandchildren; her great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Peter, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Mary Haas, her great-granddaughter, Gracie Rae, her sisters, Emily (Frank) Plocar and Marie (Louis) Nysse; one brother, John Henry (Helen) Wiegand.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. at Zimmer's Westview Funeral and Cremation Care Center, (W2132 Garton Road, Howards Grove) with Reverend Azor Cigelske, Pastor at Zion Lutheran Church in New Holstein officiating.
