Elfi Mauch, age 92, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024 at Harvest Home in Sheboygan. Elfi was born on January 24, 1932 in Gross Sausgarten, Germany to the late Emil and Marie (Wendland) Scheffler. Elfi met the love of her life, Rolf, in Germany, and on January 9, 1954, they were united in marriage. They welcomed a son, Ralf, before making the journey to America; first Rolf, and finally in 1962 Elfi and their son joined the rest of the family. Two years later, their daughter Heidi was born, completing the family.
Elfi’s love of gardening started at a young age, while growing up on her family’s farm in Germany. She loved to take care of the farm animals, and her mother would often pick flowers from Elfi’s garden instead of her own because “They were more beautiful.” Once in America, she continued her love of gardening, running a Ginsing farm with her family in both Oakfield, Kewaskum and Germantown. She was a devoted member of Ridgewood Baptist Church for over 50 years, and was involved in many of the church’s organizations to include funeral lunches and other community outreach programs. She also gave generously to her community and church, and for 25 years she knitted scarfs, hats and mittens for the Milwaukee Rescue Mission. She also continued making trips to Germany to visit her parents. Elfi was a beautiful soul that loved and prayed for her family, including her many grandkids and great-grandkids. The world could use more people like Elfi.
Elfi is survived by her children Ralf (special friend Deb Scott) Mauch and Heidi (Brian) Binversie, and her grandchildren Tammy, Nathan, Amanda, Mallorie and Karl. She is further survived by her great-grandkids, and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Elfi is preceded in death by her husband Rolf, and her sister and brother.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., at Ridgewood Baptist Church, 2720 Lilly Rd in Brookfield, with Reverend Mike DeLong officiating. A private burial will take place at Valhalla Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Saturday, June 15, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the CHURCH.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Harvest Home Assisted Living and Heartland Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Milwaukee Rescue Mission.
