Dushan “Duke” J. Rupnik, age 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Aurora Medical Center in Sheboygan.
He was born in Sheboygan on February 23, 1932, to the late Joseph and Christine (Krainz) Rupnik. He graduated from Central High School. Duke was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1954. On January 15, 1955, Duke was united in marriage to Christine Kersey at Ss Cyril and Methodius Church in Sheboygan, where Duke was a lifetime member. He then went on to the Sheboygan Police Department, retiring as a Captain in 1988.
Duke enjoyed playing softball and bowling, and later on a lot of golf. He was a member of the Riverdale Men’s Club. After retirement, Duke and Chris spent 26 years in Ocala, Florida and moved back to Sheboygan in 2018.
Duke is survived by his wife, Christine E.; sons, Mark (Paula) Rupnik and Joe Rupnik; grandchildren, Rebecca (Michael) Wallace, Matthew Rupnik, Rachel Rupnik, Lisa (Ben) Williamson, Tia (Griff) Rebecca, James Steinbreucker, Kaitlyn (Joe) Bloomer, Richard Rupnik, Thomas Rupnik, and Jeffrey Rupnik; several great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Yvonne Rupnik and Miwako (Christy) Rupnik; other family and friends.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Lisa Ann Steinbreucker and a son Randall Rupnik.
There will be a private family service for Duke at a later date. He will be inurned at Greendale Cemetery in Sheboygan.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Aurora Medical Center in Sheboygan for the excellent care given to Duke.
