Doris Knoener

December 21, 1928 — September 13, 2016

Doris E. Knoener, age 87, of Terrace Place, Sheboygan, found peace in the arms of the Lord, Tuesday evening September 13, 2016. She was born on December 21, 1928 in the Town of Meeme. She was the daughter of Oscar and Hilda (Simmonsmeier) Roethel. Doris attended Mineral Springs School, rural Newton. On December 9, 1950 Doris married Orville Knoener and farmed for over 20 years until moving to Hwy 32 where they owned and operated the Knoener Sawmill for over 40 years. Doris was also employed at the Edgewood Restaurant and Klemme's Wagon Wheel in Howards Grove.
Doris was a dedicated and extremely active member of the Franklin American Legion Auxiliary Unit #387 for 63 years holding various positions locally, within the county and district. Doris was also a member of the Voiture 1080 of the 40/8 for 30 years. Doris also worked for the Town of Herman Election Board for many years. She played in a Canasta card club for 50 years. Doris attended many athletic games and activities for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Doris was everyone's mother, sister, friend and confidant. Doris lived life to the fullest.
Doris is survived by her two children, Steve (Debbie) Knoener of Howards Grove and Darlene Meyers of Howards Grove. Doris is further survived by her grandchildren Craig (Lana) Knoener of Appleton, Shannon (Mike) Wynveen of Howards Grove, Sarah (Todd) Breher of Sheboygan and Josh Meyers of Aurora, CO. Great-grandchildren, Sommer and August Knoener, Maddie, Mya and Shawn Wynveen, and Hannah and Logan Breher. Two very special nephews and nieces Gerry and Coreen Roethel and Ed and Karen Karsteadt. Doris is also survived by her very special extended family; the Kathy Roehl family, cousins and many special friends.
Doris is reunited with her husband Orville, her parents, an infant brother LeRoy and brother Earl (Marion) Roethel.

A Funeral Service will be held for Doris at St. John's United Church of Christ Schwarzwald, W3401 Orchard Road, Elkhart Lake (northwest of Howards Grove) on Sunday September 18, at 4:00 PM. Friends may call at the church from 1:00 PM - 3:45 PM. The Franklin American Legion Auxiliary Unit #387 will be conducting a memorial service prior to the funeral. A private family committal will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Doris's name. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of Terrace Place and Sharon Richardson for the wonderful care Doris received and for the many special friendships that were created during her stay. Doris had a huge heart for anyone that came into her life including those that took care of her and her many friends thought the years. Doris had a HUGE extended family and she loved each one of you. She will remain in our hearts forever. "it's huggin' time in Heaven" "it could be worse"
