Doreen L. Lindstrom

Doreen Lindstrom (Conard) 59 years of age, and born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 3, 2024. Doreen received a heart transplant on April 4, 2024 and was blessed to return home in late April for a week. Doreen then experienced a series of unexpected medical complications leading to her readmission to St. Luke’s Hospital, where she passed. 

Doreen was preceded in death by parents Darrell and Karen Conard, father and mother-in-law Gerald and Dorothy Lindstrom, and brother-in-law Jim Lindow. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, David Lindstrom, her two children Mitchell (Kiersten) Lindstrom and Alexis Lindstrom (Kate Halliburton), and her two grandchildren Gemma Lindstrom and Warner Lindstrom. She is also survived by her two sisters Deanna Lindow and Denise (Mark) Schroeder, brother-in-law Darren (Theresa) Lindstrom and many cousins, nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.

Doreen grew up in Plymouth, Wisconsin where she graduated from high school in 1982. She married the love of her life on May 21, 1988. She and Dave moved to Howards Grove to raise a family when their children were young, where they have resided since. Doreen started her career at Acuity Insurance (formerly Heritage Insurance) when she was 18 years old. She took a six-year break to raise her young children, but later resumed working at Acuity up until her passing, spending a total of 36 years and rising to the position of Senior Workman’s Compensation Claims Representative. She received many accolades and awards during her career in recognition of her excellence and dedication to her job.

More than anything, Doreen loved and cherished her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was the rock to her family. The majority of weekends in recent memory were spent traveling to Milwaukee to visit her children and spend time with her grandkids. Doreen reveled in her role as a grandmother; she enjoyed having the grandkids do sleepovers at her house, she was never short on creative activities to do with her grandkids, and she loved to give them sweet treats.

Doreen had the unique ability to make anyone feel loved the moment you met her. Her generosity was emphasized by her love language, which was gift giving. She loved holidays, birthdays and any special occasion where she could make somebody feel important and loved. 

She enjoyed traveling and visiting new places with her husband and family, with one of her favorite trips being to Italy for their 30th wedding anniversary. Some of her other favorite hobbies included going to restaurants, going to the movies, and spending time in her backyard around the campfire or on the deck reading a book. From when her kids were very young, all the way through college, Doreen always attended and cheered on her children in their athletic endeavors, including traveling across the country to support them. Her love for sports also translated to loud conversations with the TV when the Brewers, Bucks, Packers or Marquette basketball was on.

Doreen left her mark on many lives, and the hardest thing to reconcile is that she still had a lot to accomplish in this life. She fought so hard for not only herself, but for her family, as was evidenced by the 38 days that she spent in the intensive care unit at St. Luke’s Hospital prior to her heart transplant. Upon receiving a heart transplant, Doreen was hopeful that this was her shot at a second chance at living a more normal life; her family takes solace in the fact that her final memories are those of hopefulness. In her final moments on this earth, she was able to make one more generous act. The donor bank was able to find three matches, and she had the ability to save three separate lives with the donation of her kidneys and liver as her final act in this world. Doreen has a great appreciation for the Advanced Heart Failure Team at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center, who took great care of her during her time there. 

A memorial service honoring Doreen’s life will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 12:00 p.m., at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 2133 N. 22^nd St. Sheboygan, Wisconsin 53081, with Fr. Phil Reifenberg officiating.  Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the CHURCH.
