Donald Kullmann

Donald Alphonse Kullmann, age 81, was born into eternal life on January 9th, 2017. Donald was born on January 5th, 1936 in Sheboygan to Joseph and Eleanor (Rademacher) Kullmann. He attended Holy Name School and graduated from Sheboygan North High School with the class of 1954. He attended St. Norbert College in De Pere and graduated with a B.S. Degree in business in 1958. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army having been a member of the R.O.T.C. program. He served active duty in the Army in Germany as part of the Transportation Corps from 1959-1961 and in the Army Reserves from 1961 to 1966 retiring with the rank of Captain.
On August 21, 1965 he married Mary Maersch at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Sheboygan.
Don joined Motor Transport Company in May, 1961. He was a salesman/terminal manager in Manitowoc on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and in Fond du lac on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. He remained with Motor Transport until it closed in September, 1979.
In November, 1979 he joined Advance Transportation Company in sales and became terminal manager a short time later. When Advance Transportation Company became a part of ANR-Advance, Don remained as salesman and terminal manager. He concluded his transportation career at Lakeville Motor Express working for two years as an account executive until reaching the age of 65 in January, 2001.
As his retirement job, Don worked at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center as a courier and grounds keeper retiring again at the age of 75. He then became a volunteer at Aurora doing a variety of jobs.
Don enjoyed being with his family, fishing in Door County, doing yard work, growing tomatoes and sharing them with the neighbors, and being "papa" to his mini dachshund puppies Willie and Becker, and many other well-loved dachshunds.
Don loved high school basketball. For many years, he attended as many boys' and girls' North High basketball games as he could. Special thanks to the North High staff and many friends who made it possible for Don to continue to be present at these games.
Don was a lifetime member of Holy Name Parish. He was an altar server and Eucharistic minister for many years. He also enjoyed working with the Thursday morning grounds crew. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 722. Don grew in his Catholic faith by attending annual retreats at Holy Name Retreat House on Chamber's Island in Door County, and Monte Alverno Retreat House in Appleton.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, his children and grandchildren, Pamela (Michael Carroll) of Milwaukee and their children, Madeleine, Julianna, Catherine, and Benjamin; Joseph (Heather) Kullmann of Stafford Virginia, and their children, Jean, Ashlyn, Amber, and Hector; Kristin Kullmann of Apex, NC and her son Asher Donald, and Kenneth (Jen) Kullmann of West Bend, and their children, Savanna, Aiden, Conner, and Keira; and two great-grandchildren, Dominic and Hayden. Three brothers in law, Phillpp (Gloria)Maersch of Arvada, Co, James (Faye) Maersch of West Bend, Stephen (Judy Maersch of Greendale, and one sister-in-law Margaret (Ed) Hozie of Fairfield Township, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Mary Catherine, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Catherine and Fred Maersch.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 13th at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church at 12:00 Noon with visitation from 10:00 until the time of Mass. Fr. Matthew Widder will preside. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials are appreciated for Holy Name Church, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
