Cathy Jean Nyhuis, age 67, passed away peacefully at her home in Sheboygan with her family by her side on November 29, 2024. She was born in Sheboygan on March 25, 1957 to the late Henry and Myrtle (Ernst) Diener. She was a graduate of North High School, class of 1975. On June 4, 1977, she married Ronald Nyhuis at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. Together, they raised three children: David, Timothy, and Brian.
Cathy was a beautiful soul with a big heart. Her life was a beautiful love story, beginning in early childhood when she “was on the swing sets and saw this kid that walked by named Ron.” She and Ron crossed paths many times as children, falling in love in their teen years and marrying soon after high school. Their children remember fondly all of Cathy’s delicious meals, especially around the holidays when she would make her famous Chex Mix. They also loved to travel together, visiting places like Yellowstone, Washington D.C., Florida, Tennessee and all around the state of Wisconsin. Sadly, Ron passed away on April 1, 2017. Like a fairy tale, James Maratik, who also knew Cathy and Ron from childhood, reconnected with Cathy and they fell in love all over again. On September 16, 2022, they were married in Sheboygan. Cathy and Jim went on many adventures together, enjoyed exploring Wisconsin on Jim’s motorcycle, and seeing the country together. Cathy always called her children “her boys,” and loved doting on her grandchildren. She will be missed deeply by her family and friends.
Cathy is survived by her husband James Maratik, her children David, Timothy, and Brian (Carley) Nyhuis, her grandchildren Alana and Tabitha Nyhuis, her brother Mark (Nancey) Diener, and her sister Mary (Gary) Morrelle. She is further survived by many other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Cathy’s life will take place at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at St. Mark Church, 1019 N 7th St. in Sheboygan. Family will greet visitors at the church on Saturday from NOON until the time of service.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Ronald Nyhuis, and her sister Janice (Lee) Boldt.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Sharon S. Richardson Hospice for their warmth and compassion while caring for Cathy.
