Arthur "Thomas" Progar, formerly of Sheboygan, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack Monday, March 13, 2017 at his home in Gig Harbor, Washington. He was 63 years old.
Tom was born June 16, 1953 in Sheboygan, the son of Arthur and Georgianne (nee Burr) Progar. He grew up in the Black River area and graduated from South High School in 1971
He traveled to California after graduation to live his peace and free-love lifestyle, and in 1973 returned to Wisconsin and was united in marriage.
In 1982, Tom earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Lakeland College.
Tom moved to the State of Washington in 2002 to marry Wendy, followed by marriage to Gail Lapp on October 31, 2016.
Tom was employed as a lab technician at Borden Chemical (Sheboygan) and as a group dynamics instructor at LTC (Cleveland). Most recently he worked at Metagenics (Gig Harbor, WA) as a lab technician.
Tom enjoyed music and played bass guitar in a variety of bands. His fondest memories were those playing with the band Professional Mold.
Tom was a history major in college and enjoyed reading and watching documentaries. He always seemed to know the history of or story behind everything.
Tom was a proud Slovenian who enjoyed hikes in the woods, always had a pet, and loved to enjoy a few cold ones while grilling out.
Tom is survived by his two children: Ian (Veronica) Progar of Sheboygan and Alexis Progar of Appleton. He is further survived by his granddaughters Victoria and Lily Progar, step-grandson Brian Padilla, brother Patrick (Felicia) Progar of Medford, NJ, nephew and niece Phillip and Melanie Progar of Medford, NJ, Ian and Alexis' mother Mary Progar, his latest wife Gail, many cousins on both sides of his family, and close friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017 at Zimmer Westview Funeral & Cremation Care Center, W2132 Garton Road (Hwy 42 & JJ in Howards Grove). Father Matthew Widder will officiate. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. Tom will be laid to rest at Greendale Cemetery in Sheboygan. A procession will leave Zimmer Westview for Greendale Cemetery following the services.
