Allen J. Sherven, 68, of Sheboygan, died peacefully at home with his loving family and friends around him on Wednesday, December 23, 2020.
Allen was born to Alexander and Jenny (Knutson) Sherven in Manitowoc on February 22, 1952.
Allen graduated from Valders high school in 1970. After high school, Allen received his BS degree from Luther College and his master's degree from UW-Madison. He began his career as a police officer in 1974.
Allen married Marsha, the love of his life, on June 3, 1978. Together they raised two children, Kristen (Josh) Stine from Madison and Michael Sherven from Colorado.
Al began his career at the Sheboygan Police Department (SPD) in 1974. He worked as a Special Investigator from 1975 to 1976. He took a leave of absence in 1977 to finish his master's degree and returned to the SPD in 1978. He also worked in Criminal Investigative Division in 1980. In 1988 he was promoted to Lieutenant and to Captain in 1995. He was then promoted to Deputy Chief until retirement. During his time at the SPD he was a member of the SWAT team, attended the FBI National Academy, and numerous other training and education sessions throughout his career. He kept active and wanted to be an example for younger officers. He retired from the SPD in 2008, knowing there would be more policing in his life. He worked for the Ozaukee Sheriff's Department until full retirement in 2017 when he was diagnosed with ALS.
He was a shining example of a man who loved the Lord, his family, his work, and his community and was always willing to help others. He was known for his smile and friendly personality. During his 3-year battle with ALS, he kept smiling and never complained throughout his illness. He was always thought of others before himself.
Al had been active in church all his life and his longing was Evangelism. He wanted to spread the Gospel to others and lead them to Christ showing them how their lives could be changed forever. He continued helping others until his body no longer let him, but he could talk, and used every opportunity to spread the good news by spreading the Gospel to others.
Al and Marsha had two children together, Kristen (Josh) Stine and Michael Sherven. They adored them and did their best raising them to be Christians as well as good citizens and productive people. As a family they loved to travel and have been to every state in America plus a few other countries. They became grandparents in 2015 for the first time and now have 3 grandchildren, Nolan, age 5, Alaina, age 3, and Caden, age 1.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, - the RN's, Jayne, Valerie, and Maryanne and to the CNAs Kim, Stacey, Andrea, and others.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles and several cousins and is survived by Marsha, Kristen (Josh) Stine, and Michael and by their grandchildren, Nolan, Alaina, and Caden (ages listed above), by several Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.
